Front page in the local fishwrapper, five vehicle collisions with moose in one day. One totally destroyed a truck and cargo. And a driver was killed in a rollover when attempting to avoid a deer.

Maine's a different sort of place....

I guess so! Be careful out there Jim.

(And welcome to the goldfish bowl.)

Watch out for these guys while you're on the bike, okay? And welcome aboard - may I add you to my friends list?

"Go ahead, make my day."

Oops, wrong movie.

As for the wildlife, in bicycle mode I have had close encounters with woodchucks, deer, and a mangy-looking red fox, but no moose. And a flying wild turkey nearly knocked me off the bike. Looked about like a B52, up close and personal....

It would seem that the wild turkeys don't have a whole lot more sense than the domesticated variety, who have to be herded in out of the rain! I wouldn't recommend a close encounter with a moose, though, it's about like hitting a brick wall.

The roadsigns changing from deer crossing to beware of moose was funny to us. IIRR it happened at the border between Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Welcome to LJ. I'm glad you're here because I've run out of time to keep up with alt.callahans.

BTW there is [livejournal.com profile] architecture

The DOT has one of those signs on the interstate just as you pass the city limits of our town -- headed in. And another where the interstate passes between our house and the Big Mall.

We've had a moose in our back yard, half a mile from downtown. Big ugly stupid critters, very similar to Bullwinkle in the flesh.

I may poke at the architecture group, but I'm sort of atypical for the breed. More interested in construction methods and solving problems than in creating "art." Frank Gehry leaves me shaking my head.

Most of the stuff in [livejournal.com profile] architecture is asking for ideas. There really isn't that much wanking about Gehry. Lots of questions about what are the best schools, starting salaries and such.

Well, I wouldn't have much to contribute on _those_. Been out of school for over 30 years now, and self-employed so I don't have a clue on salaries....

And if I wanted a star-class career I wouldn't be hiding out in the backwoods of Maine.
