Gray day

Patches of green showing on the weather radar, east of us and headed west.  This is still that stalled ocean storm south of Nova Scotia, been there for about a week and swinging bands of rain into Maine and New Hampshire.  I think that I shall defer my bike ride to tomorrow.

Maybe if you just remove Nova Scotia...

Tried that.

"Do you suppose," drawls Pernicious the Musquodoboit Harbour Farm Cat, "that Serjeant-maitre Gawne has a puppy in his mouth?"

"Why no, Pernicious, the thought never occurred to me. Why would you think that?" replies Pernicious the Musquodoboit Harbour Farm Cat's faithful amanuensis and general factotum.

"Well, purr-haps I am mistaken, and it is his tongue that's wagging just a trifle too vigorously..." concludes Pernicious the Musquodoboit Harbour Farm Cat, who has been known to inflict bodily harm on those suggesting the geographic dislocation of the Queen of Canadian Provinces (tm)... Meanwhile Pernicious the Musquodoboit Harbour Farm Cat has donned the appropriate tartan, placed his bagpipes beneath his arm, and begun a quick chorus of "Farewell to Nova Scotia"...

It's OK Cat. I was thinking we'd fetch Barnstead first.

ah, but fetch him _where_? And it sounds as if you propose to leave That Cat behind.

Why yes Jim, I do. Nova Scotia *needs* its favorite son.

As for Barnstead, my colleagues just up the road would be interested in him. The Russians are getting fractious again.

Dunno Barnstead's take on the matter, but I wouldn't want NSA to be interested in _me_.

I know what you mean. Every day on my drive into work I drive past the idling black Suburban that sits next to the "NSA Employees Only" exit ramp. Woe betide the poor fool who takes that ramp and doesn't belong there.

Oh, I suspect that the folks on the gate are quite accustomed to politely telling lost drivers to make a U-turn back to the main drag, all the while subtly recording the particulars of the vehicle, driver and passengers in question.

I'm slightly surprised that there's an overt sign on the ramp, though. The FAA's Boston Center is (in true government fashion) located just off US-3 in Nashua, New Hampshire. As a post-9/11 "security measure", the New Hampshire DOT took the "FAA Center" lettering off the exit signs. Of course, you can still see the buildings from the highway, draped with radio aerials ...
