Where do they get those mailing lists?

This morning's snail-mail included the usual direct-to-bin stuff, some actual mail, and one oddball.  An ad for a computerized encyclopedia, with salutation to "Dear PC user."

Addressed to my mother.  Who died years ago, never lived at this address, and never used a computer in her life.

Ain't life in the future wunderful?

Oh, yes. I still occasionally get mail addressed to my cousin's ex-wife. About ten years ago, they lived down the street - in an apartment my family lived in twelve years ago. Confusion with forwarding I guess.

But some folks live in the past. The cable company regularly sends me three copies of most ads: one to #42, on to apt 1 and one to apt A. Now this place was multiple apartments before it was condemned and then bought and rebuilt by Habitat for Humanity. But that was almost fifteen years back! And twice, TWICE! the cable company has sent people out to confirm valid addresses and been told that these two other apartments no longer exist. And still the ads come!
