Prediction of maybe 8"-12" of fresh white stuff, or maybe less with a dash of rain if we turn out to be "coastal" this time. Or up to 20" if our house lot moved to the mountains overnight. Maine weather offers that sort of instant relocation.

Timing is everything, as the show-biz saying goes. Today is also trash day, so that the snowplow crews have the glorious chance to spread broken garbage bags throughout the known universe! Plus a lottery-chance or two at a small child sledding out into the street...

Along those lines, we've actually had a sledding fatality this year. _Not_ snowmobiling, but standard sliding-down-a-hill sledding. Plus some serious injuries.

Oh, I'd forgotten about the joys of snowplows on Trash Day. Thank you for reminding me once again, as if the daffodils blooming in my back yard weren't enough, why I stay down here. (When I lived in Chicago during the Great Blizzard of 1979, I remember picking up trash for weeks from the front yard, as each thaw would reveal more wonders that had been buried in the ice since after Christmas. I generally consider that a pleasure right up there with picking infected ingrown hairs off my scrotum or being on a panel at a science fiction convention with Bruce Sterling.)

We do not appear to have rated high enough* on any vengeful god's hit list this week -- the garbage trucks came by before the plow trucks.

*Yes, this assumes that either Smiting or Divine Focus is a finite resource...
