Jan. 19th, 2007 02:28 pmWell, cleared the driveway and walk and cars, with some thawing and bare pavement. Then the city snowplow rumbled by. Throwing slush ten or fifteen feet, up the driveway, over the walk, six inches deep...
Shoveled out again, drove downtown, pigeon loft visit. Hey, they almost have _heat_ in the building now! They've also cleaned some brickwork that will be exposed in the finished units, raising severe questions about "They don't build them like that anymore." Drunken mason? Brick courses look like swayback mules, finally brought back to true by thicker mortar lines...
Occasional spits and spots of snow, but the weather radar looks like we're done for this round. Next comes the wind and plunging temperatures, with black ice overnight and in the morning.

Date: 2007-01-19 08:42 pm (UTC)I remember a newspaper office - former mill - in Amesbury, MA. Each window was set at its own unique angle, each a one-of-a-kind work of art. That's how you get all that funky Lovecraftian geometry, you know.
They just left the bottle of whiskey (1823 or 53?) under the attic floor of the house I grew up in to throw us off the scent of their non-Euclidian mathematics...

Date: 2007-01-20 01:44 am (UTC)No - we did enough work on that house over the 25 years I lived there to know that not one line was plumb with any other. I'm sure they finished most of that bottle - and many another - when they built that place.
What the guys who built my 4 year old current-house had as an excuse, I don't know...
