'Tain't natural

Temperature reached 58 F yesterday, thumping the old record for the date. Lost our evening walk to a spell of pounding rain, after which the moon and stars appeared. Thermometer reading of about 40 F this morning. Sunshine now. Maine? January?

I don't know if this represents "Weather" or "Climate", of course.

Starting to poke back into POWERS a bit, after a couple of month's vacation from writing. I think Old Guy may not be human. Not sure if he's a gnome or a nibelung. Seems to be able to talk to iron and steel, though, something of a wizard at forging laminated steel blades and such. Not much of an economic skill these days -- if you want to sell custom knives and swords, you have to be at least mildly famous. This doesn't work for a recluse with no valid ID because he's about 300 years old...

Maybe he needs a marketing front-man?

Either that or he doesn't sell on the normal market. Not that I'm familiar with the setting of POWERS. Perhaps he is known amongst other circles, such as gnomes or nibelungs or whatever else might be running around in POWERS. There are usually several markets out there.

...to the mass market, you have to be at least mildly famous. In collector/enthusiast etc circles, Word Gets Around. Clearly superior work is its own advertising.

He'd really prefer that no one knows he exists. Probably needs a front. We're working on it.

Yeah, "word" gets around with insiders. Same thing in illegal antiquities, which makes the Morgans rich men.

I don't know if I dare let them meet...

What makes you think they haven't? I would imagine they have and the Morgans do the selling for him. Pass it off as an antique blade.

Well, there's the minor problem that they don't inhabit the same universe...

Which I could change, of course. Portrait of the Author as God.

Would parallel-Morgans still be pirates?

Give him a mortal family of associates who do the public facework for him. They take the credit for the creation, negotiation, etc, and he gets the complete anomynimity that he likes. :> They split the proceeds in a mutually pleasing manner...

That's my simple suggestion. :>
