As part of the spring poking-around in our yard, I lopped off a couple of branches from the forsythia bush out back. They intruded on lawn-mower space at face level. But they had blooms opening . . .

Other signs of spring include portents of snowbird migration, such as a plumbing and heating company truck at a house across the park that was shut down all winter.
