When the gales of November come early

Well, the storm begins. Note in the paper this morning that we have a flood watch for storm surges downtown -- apparently the wind direction, with gusts up to 60 knots, will be perfect for driving water up the river, coinciding with high tide...

Waves 15'-20' in the marine forecast, one of those funny red flags with the black square flying. At least they didn't go with two.

Had a full stack of goldfinches on the thistle feeder, stocking up.

Wife doesn't expect a lot of traffic at the nature center today.

Been raining since I woke, early and turned over and went back to sleep, it being so gray. Once up, I periodically watched out the deck window, seeing the woodpecker on one of the new bird feeders -- sometimes it was all he could do to hold onto the seed cage as the thing swung and bounced in the wind. With a lull in the rain I got the mail in shirtsleeves -- good timing that, since about five minutes after I came in their was a real whoosh of wind and rain.

I see SFWA member blogs talking about flood warnings all over NE. I think I did the right thing by not going to Oldtown for the chess tournament today.

I was surprised when it started raining today. So much for remembering to check the weather this morning. But I did at least wear my trench coat today! I do enjoy a good storm.
