(Ancient Bill Cosby routine)

Well, the remains of Hurricane Frances have arrived up here in the Great North Woods, and here I am with a hole in my cellar wall you could drive a truck through. A low-rider truck mind you, as I can't stand upright in most areas of the cellar, but the hole 'tis wide enough, 'twill do.

And the contractor is sitting around and waiting for the concrete truck. This is a required element of any concrete work -- the truck may be up to two hours late, depending on the number of hourly workers you have waiting on material....

We shall see how well the floor drain works, I guess.

****NEWS FLASH****

Concrete truck has arrived! Shall we hope he doesn't back in to deceased neighbor's driveway far enough to collapse the excavation? (That's sorta kinda what caused this problem in the first place, a loaded oil truck backing into that driveway during Mud Season, a period in the annual Maine cycle where the soil thaws and universally turns to Jello.)

Hi... you don't know me, but I ran into your journal on the science fiction/fantasy community (I think). So you're a published author? Or so I gather from your journal info. I just wanted to say what an honor it is to be in the presence of someone who has accomplished part of what I aspire to do. I've run into other authors online (James Richey, to name one) and it always inspires me, because I think to myself, "I'm gonna do that."

But anyway... just thought I'd say hi. And I'm sorry about your wall. (Poor thing, didn't have a chance... hehe... just kidding.) I'm glad I haven't experienced a hurricane... yet...

Welcome to News from the Frozen North, or some such thing. LJ has a fairly wide selection of authors, some of which talk a lot more about writing than I do. I'm more likely to post stuff about bicycle rides....

We aren't really experiencing a hurricane, just the leftover rain from one.

Ah, well that's good. (About the hurricane.) I've never really run into many published authors on LJ.

Writers -- well, off the top of my head, there are (usernames) kinzel, kijjohnson, matociquala, rolanni, suricattus, papersky, and pameladean. I'm sure you can track down a slew of others by cross-checking friends lists, but LJ usernames can be a bit opaque.
