My fifteen minutes of fame

And the bit about large checks for doing the same story over and over -- that was referring to some other guys. Don't get any silly ideas. No large checks, yet.

What I have yet to figure out is why 2 of you (and maybe there's more) are so caught up with this whole Maine thing that all of your books take place there. I mean, ok, you write what you know and really, I guess it's no different from Koontz and his thing with California or Piers Anthony and Xanth.
But Maine...sheesh!
Whatever happened to mystical places that don't really exist or alien planets?

Didn't you know that Maine is a fictional place? I really live in Paramus.

But Maine...sheesh!

What's the matter with Maine?

Liz Hand lives right up the street, but she tends to set things in D.C. Might be her university days were formative...

Lots of people doing that, last I looked.

or alien planets?

That's sf. Lots of people doing that, too.

Like you guys, for example. You're allowed to toot your horn over here. Honest.

I agree - Maine is not merely fictional, but downright mythical. Trust me, most of my family comes from Maine. And they are unreal.

Nice picture. I don't know that you look that much like Stephen King, but you look the very picture of a successful author/architect.

Let us know when you reach the point that publishers are sending you large checks for telling the same stories over and over. Maybe Mercedes Lackey can recommend a broker for you. (Okay, that was catty, sorry.)

I didn't name any names.

[identity profile] lolleeroberts.livejournal.com 2006-03-06 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you didn't and I shouldn't have. Delete it if you wish. I won't be offended.

By no means. I shall take a valiant stand against censorship -- cry havoc and let slip the dogs of stet!

Dale did good by you, you rare combination, you.

Cool!

Was it Piers Anthony or Orson Scott Card who managed to get paid for writing the same sequence of events from 7 different points of view, and selling it as 7 different books?

[identity profile] jhetley.livejournal.com 2006-03-06 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like Anthony -- his "Incarnations" series. But I'm sure someone else has done it. "There is nothing new under the sun."

Congratulations!

No large checks, yet.
I see; they're paying you in the small unmarked bills favored by the Pratts and Morgans of Stonefort, eh?

Residents of the Maine coast often prefer their income in such form. The IRS can be such a pain.
