Tuesday goose report
Sep. 24th, 2024 03:42 pmAbout a dozen geese by the cemetery pond when I headed out, 20 or 30 at the far end when I came back through. Between distance, crowding, and 20 mph on the bike, that's as accurate a count as you are gonna get.
Roadkill limited to a garter snake or maybe two, woolly bear caterpillars, and several blotches on the asphalt that indicated a mid-sized corpse had been removed. Probably not porcupine or skunk -- raccoon, hare, or woodchuck likely.
Great swathes of asters, purple and white in various sizes and intensity. Still another variety of goldenrod blooming -- we have many, spread out through summer into fall. Larches in the bog starting to go yellow.
Got up over 60 F, windy, rode upriver and inland to the bog and thence home. Did not die.
