Air temperature 61 F, wind northwest gusting to 20 mph, partly cloudy. I may attempt another bike ride. Or not, if the wind picks up. This is the traditional end of tourist season in Maine.

Geese absent from the visible cemetery, both coming and going. Did have two turkey vultures circling fairly low over the bog when I rode through, which may account for the shortage in the roadkill census out there. Saw a chipmunk *try* to become roadkill, dashed across the road in front of me and under an oncoming pickup truck, but I saw it come out the other side. Also saw a patch of fur in the same area that may have been another chipmunk before bad luck road crossing.

Nothing new floral. More trees turning red in the bog. Purple loosestrife trying to take over that horse pasture where I complain about the buttercups every year -- proof that nothing wants to eat that damned loosestrife.

Got out on the bike, upriver and inland to the road through the bog. Did not die.

Unscientific survey said that there was more southbound traffic than northbound at both of my interstate highway crossings.
