Air temperature 51 F, wind near calm, sunny. Left the garage/driveway light on last night for the first time in a couple of months and we don't seem to have attracted any brown-tail moths. Another sign of the passing seasons. Bike ride after the world warms up a bit.

Couple-dozen of the usual suspects out around the cemetery pond, on both my outbound and inbound passes. You aren't going to get a more accurate count than that, since I'm on a fairly busy and curving road at that point, going about 20 mph.

More butter-and-eggs on this route, locations I hadn't seen before. Thistles going to down, milkweed pods yellowing, chicory still blooming where it hasn't been mowed. Maples going red in the bog, portent of things to come.

Roadkill limited to one gray squirrel and a couple of patches of blood on the asphalt. Smelled skunk in several locations but no corpses seen.

Got out on the bike, upriver and inland to the road through the bog and home. Ride takes me over 800 miles for the year. 900 looks possible, depending on the whims of weather. 1000 may not be.
