Inhospitable

Air temperature 67 F, wind near calm, hazy sun. City crew started mowing the park about 5 AM/0500, stirring up contrails of dew behind their machines. I expect an equally early shutdown is on the schedule.

Steam-bath ambling

Got my walk in early and came back damp anyway. Cat friends notable by their absence. Even the birds seem cowed into silence. Some yard guys out mowing and trimming and such, not a good day to be laboring in the fields.

Nonpolitical

Bees and bumblebees working the hostas, white clover, and heal-all in our yard. The bumbles haven't been interested in the salvia this year, no idea why. And nothing seems to want the day lilies, which seems weird.

I had hoped for hummingbirds at the hostas, but only one fleeting glimpse of "maybe" so far.
