Monday roadkill/floral report
Jun. 10th, 2024 01:02 pmOne dead turtle, right-side up this time, so the rough brown back IDs it as a young snapper even though it was painted-turtle size. Also one small bird, all I can say is that it was brown.
First roses seen out in the bog. They get mowed every summer, which slows them down. Calla still blooming in a pool by one of the culverts. Lots of red and white clover on the roadside, plus maybe hop-clover. Mullein starting to send up flower spikes, milkweed stalks and leaves but no flowers yet, water-parsnip starting to open. I don't think I've mentioned them yet, but we also are growing a fine crop of tent caterpillars and poison ivy.
Got out on the bike, mockingbird song at several locations, no geese in the cemetery. Rain was showing across town on the weather radar but all I had to contend with was gusty wind. Did not die.
