May. 19th, 2024 09:21 amCatbirds back in the azalea bush. Maybe they didn't like all those bumblebees buzzing around. Don't know what they're after -- doesn't appear to be nesting, and it would be a bit late for that anyway.
Addendum: May is still the start of nesting season for catbirds and we had some minor lumber-jack work next door, so their preferred location may have been disturbed. We'll see what proceeds from here. They may not like human activity right inside that window.

Sunday floral report
May. 19th, 2024 03:36 pmCherries dropping their petals, more apples blooming, and those red trilliums are disappearing under their leaves. Bush honeysuckle flowers are just starting to open. And the horsetail and ferns are filling in nicely.
No roadkill to report, no interesting metal birds at the airport/base. Did see one private or commuter jet land while I was out there, so the runway is open.
Got out on the bike, did not get rained on. The road was damp out at the high point of the ride, but I suspect that was an encounter with low clouds or fog. Did not die.
