Friday roadkill report
May. 3rd, 2024 03:31 pmYes! The return of the ever-popular roadkill report. Sort of. Either a pigeon or a gull, neither a thrill, flat on the asphalt near the State Highway Department. Not-roadkill, 5 or 6 geese and a pair of ducks in the cemetery pond, about half a mile further on. Ducks ID'd as definite mallards this time. Probably should mention that "geese" in this context always means Canada geese -- don't think I've ever seen either brant or snow geese in Maine.
First shadbush blooms of the season, lots more skunk cabbage in the bog, and the green haze on the tamaracks grows more serious. Some of the maples are already dropping blossoms.
Temperature jumped up above 60 F so I got out on the bike. First run of the road bike for the year, so I'll probably have some new aches from the different riding position.
