A gradual light

Air temperature 36 F, wind northwest about 6 mph, partly cloudy. I'm declaring yardwork done for the year, by excluding snow from that category. Still have serious wind and rain forecast Sunday night into Monday. Proponents of a White Xmas are worried.

Always ominous

Siren came along our road and then stopped. So I checked, as one does, and it had turned at the intersection and sat blinking in front of a house at the next side street. That house contains an elderly woman and a probable descendant. Elderly in this case being anyone older than us in apparent age . . . .

We don't know them. The only interaction is a couple of yappy dogs also resident, that take offense at my using the public sidewalk on the other side of the street.
