Friday migratory report
Sep. 29th, 2023 03:26 pm20+/- geese out at the cemetery pond when I headed out, not in view when I came back but I heard them downstream. Dead warbler by the roadside, couldn't ID without stopping and maybe not even then because fall warblers are confusing. No other fresh roadkill unless I count woolly bears.
Upland red maples starting to turn, sumac flaming, bracken going brown. Asters everywhere, with still occasional goldenrod and chicory and what looked like a couple of Queen Anne's lace. More milkweed pods splitting, more cattail heads going to fluff.
Signs up saying the road past the cemetery pond will be closed for a month, starting end of next week. Sounds like culvert replacement or similar semi-major work, not just paving.
Temperature 60s F, AQI marginal, hazy sky. Got out on the bike, upriver and back through the bog. Did not die. Still old and slow.
