Why my books don't sell
I'm reading a recent novel that has a lot of glowing reviews and finding it decidedly meh. Slow development, prose that obscures, and characters that haven't made me care . . .
Not yet dropping it unfinished, but it is on that road.

Saturday wildlife report
Five geese by the cemetery pond. I suspect at least one more, as an odd number is odd in the spring. Lots of dueling cardinals yammering away.
Roadkill limited to the human sort -- truck passed me with a smoking right rear wheel, probably brake dragging. Had to follow that stink for a couple of miles. Also, people ignoring a couple of oncoming sirens at a traffic light.
Got out on the bike, upriver to the junkyard and back, just warm enough and little wind. Did not die
10 miles, 1:00, both approximate.
