Waning moon through trees

Air temperature 36 F, wind near calm, clear sky. Another month and that moon will be lost in leaves. May get another bike ride in today.

Aviation notes

Two eagle-sized birds over the far side of the park this morning, no positive ID. Pileated woodpecker at work on one of the roadside trees, didn't seem bothered by me about 8' away. Mockingbird singing in a hedge near the hospital, also seemed unconcerned by my presence.

Thursday wildlife report

Maybe a dozen geese by the cemetery pond, which is clear of ice. May have heard a distant mockingbird, but it could have been snatches of song from different birds. No woodchucks yet. No roadkill, unless you count the ravages of winter on the road.

Warm enough that I donned my regular bike shorts and shirt and headed out for another conditioning ride. Did not die. About 6.5 miles, about 40 minutes.
