Air temperature -3 F when I got up, skyrocketing to -1 now. Wind northeast about 5 mph, pale sunshine through thin clouds. Fluffed-up chickadees at the thistle feeder.
Four hairy woodpeckers at work on that elm tree this afternoon. I've never encountered more than two at one time in previous years and have to assume that this group of at least six is a family still hanging together.
