Where the coyotes howl
Nov. 6th, 2022 08:22 amAnother house in the neighborhood showed up on the real estate listings, now "sale pending" -- this one backs up on a couple-hundred acres of tangled brush that used to be the fields of the state hospital. Renowned habitat of foxes, raccoons, and porcupines, as well as the aforementioned coyotes and a reputed fisher family. Hope those buyers don't keep outdoor pets.
Sunday bonus report
Nov. 6th, 2022 12:31 pmStill defiant asters blooming on the other side of town. Also, cinquefoil in the grass and goats-beard. Most of the leaves down, but a plantation of tamaracks still puts on a good show of the smoky gold. And no, we have no clue why someone would plant tamaracks -- they aren't a commercial tree.
No roadkill, no interesting metal birds out at the base. I think I heard a C-130 taking off, that's a distinctive sound, but I was pedaling in the wrong direction for a visual check. Army Guard Blackhawks were playing.
Warm, windier than I would like at 15 mph with gusts over 25, but I got another bike ride in. Did not die.
