Air temperature 39 F, wind south about 3 mph, airport reporting fog and visibility 1.5 miles. Can still see the radio tower lights from here. Should get a bit of respite from the morning darkness on Sunday, along with the circadian disruption.

Oak leaves are durable and flighty. More windrows by the side of the road, waiting for the city's diesel-powered vacuum cleaner. We'll see if they stay.

I put out a wire mesh "seed ball" full of black oil sunflower seeds a couple of days ago. The chickadees now have it on their map. It is right outside our kitchen window, so we get a good diversion while doing dishes.

Leaves down from most of the trees, exceptions being oaks, some beeches, and the tamaracks. Even the asters have quit blooming. Milkweed, cattail, and thistle fluff floating on the breeze.

No roadkill except for the road through the bog -- crews working on replacing two culverts, water up to the edge of the road. Alternating one-way traffic with flaggers rather than the trailer-mounted lights I reported before.

Temperature above 60 F and light wind, so I snatched a bike ride from the jaws of winter. May have another chance Sunday. Did not die.
