Sunday last hurrah report
Oct. 16th, 2022 12:53 pmStill some defiant asters blooming, large purple variety, but just scattered clumps. A lot of leaves down. Oaks and beeches holding on, of course -- some of them will keep dead leaves right through winter. Tamaracks not yet yellow.
Some interesting avians spotted -- couple of C-17s parked with a Virgin Australia passenger jet in the visitors' parking at the base, odd flock. And 30 or 40 ducks in a temporary puddle the storm left in some grass. Looked to be mallards but could have been some black ducks mixed in. Can't tell them apart on bicycle bird-watching conditions.
Temperature got up into the mid 50s F, wind manageable, so I put on my ski top over the bike gear and got out for a ride. This takes me over 1100 miles for the year, which some people could do in a week. But some people aren't old.
