Watch where you're going

Air temperature 70 F, wind southwest about 5 mph, clouds clearing away after light rain overnight. Checked on the garage hosta bed when I rolled out the trash bin, and nearly got a hummingbird in the face.

Friday icky report

Across town and past the airport/base, no enigmatic visiting metal birds this time. Standard summer flowers. No roadkill identified, but there was a blot on the asphalt near the old Bomarc site that could have been either a raccoon or a deer, judging by size. Also, hearse pulling out of the homeless shelter parking lot as I rode by.

Major ride thing is heat and humidity -- 82 F now, dew point 65. I came back and sat in front of a fan for a while. Did not die.

Ethical issue

Had to take in our rain gauge this morning. When I went to check the overnight precip, I found two dead bumblebees in the water, plus a beetle still kicking. Need to work out a new location for the gauge that won't get destroyed by the mowing crew.
