Our illustrious senator has put her house up for sale, looking to downsize. In looking through the listing, which does not meet our needs, I see no mention of the military-grade security systems that must be in place . . .

Speaking of estates

My neighborhood walks take me past The Old Place on a regular basis. The new owner has torn down the garage and workshop, stripped out the kitchen, and work has ceased. The lawn hasn't been mowed this year. I feel like I ought to apologize to our former neighbors, who were/are nice people . . .

Thursday floral report

Daisy fleabane, goat's-beard, and water parsnip joining the roadside spectrum, while the birds-foot trefoil, vetch, and clover run rampant.

No roadkill noted, beyond some suspicious blotches on the asphalt.

Got out on the bike, across town and by the airport. Did not die. Metal bird I couldn't identify, four-engine turboprop but without the high tail of most transports like the C-130 or A-400.

Junk mail never dies

Received in today's mail, a charity's begging letter to my mother at our new address. She died over twenty years ago and never lived with us. Diamonds and mailing lists are forever.
