Sunday roadkill report
Jun. 12th, 2022 01:33 pmTwo porcupine corpses in about a half mile of road, a young raccoon, and a probable red fox. The latter is ID'd mainly by tail, as the remains were in bad shape. Also a couple of flat chipmunks that misjudged traffic.
First orange hawkweed, ragged-robin, and blackberry flowers. Lots of yellow hawkweed, birds-foot trefoil, lupines, and clovers on the roadside. Black locust trees dropping flowers.
Got out on the bike, downriver and then inland a bit and home. Did not die. Amusement over at the airport, a crow chased by both a red-winged blackbird and a mockingbird, who seemed to be coordinating their attacks. Solidarity!
