Summer lingers on

Air temperature 72 F, light southwest breeze, mostly cloudy. Bike ride local only, early.

Sunday asphalt report

New paving on about four miles of today's bike route, sorely needed. That section of road needs work every couple of years, because much of it has a bad base. Going through the bog, the original road was "corduroy" -- logs laid crosswise on a base of peat and muck . . .

Nothing new in the floral department. Lots of goldenrod, daisies, vetch, white sweet clover, and milkweed.

One flat squirrel and a few blotches on the road for roadkill. Did smell skunk at several points, but no corpses sighted.

Scattered drips and a few patches of wet paving, but got out on the bike. Did not die.
