Winter creeps closer

Air temperature 46 F, wind north about 10 mph, overcast with wan sunshine. Got some of the yard work done yesterday, mowing the fern garden and felling peonies that were felling themselves.

Neighborhood changes

Discovered a crawler backhoe munching up the large barn up the street. Been a good long time since people stabled horses in town. Guess they didn't want to pay for upgrades to make it a rental.

Wasted nit-picky

I wish news-critters would quit talking about wildfires "fueled" by high winds.
"Driven" doesn't take up any more space . . .

Well, the crawler backhoe now perches triumphant on a pile of splintered wood.  Have to say that the homeowner's view out back won't have improved much -- they now stare at the backside of a barn on the next street, with multiple colors of weathered wood and peeling paint.

(Yes, our neighborhood has barns and carriage houses, since we predate the horseless carriage.  And electricity, and indoor plumbing, and . . .)

Ethnic cleansing thoughts

Need to remember that all the governments in the area -- Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey -- regard the Kurds as an inferior race . . .
