Air temperature 55 F, wind west about 5 mph, overcast with patchy fog. Followed a trail of plastic spoons on my walk for the newspaper, still in their individual plastic wrappers. Both littering and waste. Then found a car parked across three spaces, including the handicap space, at the convenience store. Driver sitting inside, staring at her cell phone . . .

Birches and aspens starting to turn, yellow replacing the ash leaves lost to the wind. Upland oaks and maples spotty, maybe 30% "fall color" with scattered full trees turned. Poison ivy gone a pretty scarlet . . .

No roadkill. Not-roadkill, a flock of maybe 8 wild turkeys working over a hay-field up near the junkyard. Also woolly-bear caterpillars tromping across the asphalt in search of a good place to hunker down and pupate for the winter.

Temperature got up to 60 F, sunny, still windy, got out on the bike. The chances grow slim as autumn marches on. Did not die.
