Air temperature 65 F, wind NW about 8 mph, partly cloudy and damp from overnight dew. Expect to get out on the bike after morning rituals.

Two porcupines on the asphalt, shreds of a skunk, what looked like a swallow. The second porky may not have been dead yet -- quills were still up. Watch where you are driving, dammit.

First asters blooming, small pale purple. New species of goldenrod, can't tell you what from the limitations of bicycle botany. Some of the thistles going to fluff.

Got out on the bike, upriver to my break spot by the dam, then across and down and turning off to add some strenuous hills. No eagles. More wind than I'd like. Did not die.

Couple of white hens scratching and pecking in a front yard just off the US highway on my bike ride earlier. I hope the Strong Independent Chickens know enough to stay off my roadkill statistics.
