Hell, meet handbasket

Air temperature 57 F, dew point 51, clear sky, wind NNE about 5 mph. Supposed to get a couple of decent days, then hot and humid return. Bike rides planned.

Friday autumnal report

More and yet more asters including large pale blue versions. Still not up to the really showy purple ones. Saw one milkweed pod splitting and extruding fluff. Yesterday's monarch butterfly was wandering vaguely southward . . .

Roadkill limited to splotches on the road and a couple of gray squirrels. Also, part of my standard route still blocked off by water district work.

Cemetery pond drained and scraped bare, in an attempt to remove invasive flora. Don't expect any reports of blue herons from there for a while.

Air temperature 67 F now, got out on the bike, did not die.
