Ghostly summer paths
Aug. 5th, 2018 07:10 amThe park one block over from us has passed through numerous incarnations, starting as a "commons" for grazing and later as a formal Victorian layout with an oval walk for genteel strolling and numerous geometric arcs from that out to the neighboring streets. Now it is mostly grass, for kiddie soccer and dog Frisbee and such. But when hot weather hits in summer, memories surface -- browned-out grass over the old paths, because the gravel below the sod drains faster than the loam elsewhere.
Sunday invasive aliens report
Aug. 5th, 2018 10:27 amMeadowsweet and burdock blooming, along with the usual suspects. City has dug out the roadside ditch along part of today's route. First plants colonizing the bare clay -- purple loosestrife . . .
No recent roadkill.
Got out on the bike before heat's hammer came down, across town and over to the airport (no rare metal birds sighted) and thence over hill and down dale to home. Did not die.
