Air temperature 46 F, wind north about 9 mph, scattered clouds. Waiting for the world to warm up enough for a bike ride, instead of getting out early before it gets too hot.

Phlox, roadside vetch and red clover, goat's-beard, and some roses blooming. Rhododendrons and honeysuckle dropping petals. Air still full of pollen.

No roadkill or not-roadkill seen, unless you count the roads themselves.

Air temperature got up to 55 F with wind gusting to 15 mph, so I modified my bike plans to a shorter route and wore the ski top. Across town to the airport and back, no interesting metal birds sighted. Did not die.

We may or may not have a scarlet tanager in the neighborhood. Song like a robin with a sore throat. I couldn't spot the culprit, but Wife assures me you can have an entire ornithology class, with binoculars, surrounding the singer without ever seeing it . . .
