We probably should be keeping an eagle eye on the flock, looking for hoary redpolls hiding amongst the common, but are not playing that game.  Item the first, there is dispute among the learned as to whether those are actually different species.  Item the second, the common species shows a lot of color and pattern variation.  Item the third, the damn birds move around too much.

Morning temperature 7 F -- positive, not negative, and the wind has died down.  Sun now going to work.

An old story that I hadn't realized the national news-feeds hadn't picked up, "dirty bomb" components and a white supremacy asshole in Maine, killed by his wife.  As [livejournal.com profile] ziactrice put it, a classic case of "He needed killin' . . ."

And about our new telephone company . . .

Well, that internationally-known leftist* rag THE ECONOMIST has (again) come out in favor of legalizing a buncha evil seductive drugs:

www.economist.com/opinion/displaystory.cfm

One thing they don't push hard in the editorial:  the alliance between drug overlords and governments to keep heroin, cocaine, etc. illegal.  Benefits both sides.

*insert ironic smiley here

Okay, not an actual link this time, but a headline capable of . . . multiple . . . interpretations on Excite news:

China defends Tibet policies ahead of riot date

Okay, we have scheduled riots?  Convenient for police overtime charges and such.
