Well, a second local TV station will shut down analog transmission tonight.  This makes two out of the four VHF stations.  In grudging recognition, Wife has asked me to switch her set over to the digital converter now -- she'd been hanging on, teeth and toenails, to analog because she hates the audio dropouts and picture freezes of interference on digital.

And another round of rural viewers will lose any TV reception at all.  Even with rooftop antenna systems.  Another round of marginal viewers will have to convert from indoor antennas to rooftop systems, in order to receive a usable signal.  Hidden tax of the digital revolution -- them things ain't cheap.

The city-dwellers may get lots of wireless broadband and other Buck Rogers services out of this, but rural areas will never see those goodies.  Hell, the nature center has to go with a satellite system for any kind of broadband internet.  No DSL or cable available within miles.  We don't even get reliable cell phone service outside of major cities.
