Maine lobstermen (and lobsterwomen) face certain doom.  Prices at the dock have plummeted due to the economic slowdown, and the costs of running a lobster boat have rocketed through the roof.  Ain't worth headin' out t' pull traps.

Thus does the crisis in consumer confidence hit home on the Maine coast.  Folks, even if your 401K has tanked, boil up a couple of bugs for dinner!  Save our way of life!

No ex-animate critters spotted today.  I do wonder, though, on a parallel line, what those trucks labeled "Concrete Corrosion Consultants" may have implied, parked under the Interstate bridge on the Kelly Road . . .

Waited for the temperature to nudge above 50 F before grabbing the green fuzzy jacket and heading out on my bike.  We approach the end of bike season, I fear.  But the tamaracks are turning yellow out in the bog, and even the oaks show color, and I must ride until I can ride no more.  Or some such drivel.

1298 miles on the odometer.  I will reach 1300 registered total, even if I have to pedal four times around the block in a snowstorm.  Which is not impossible, for October in Maine.

Got my usual exposure to bumper stickers while out on the bike, vote for this or that or who, and came across a bemusing side-effect of living in a state with a lot of older cars.  Most "cause" bumper stickers use shorthand -- "Vote NO on 1" or "Vote YES on 2" -- but you can't really tell if that refers to the ballot proposition in the current campaign, or one from three elections back . . .
