Sunday roadkill report
Aug. 10th, 2008 02:38 pmThree or four tattered porcupines, frogs, red-bellied snake, garter snake. All of those in the first 24 miles -- rest of the ride was bereft.
Headed out into the fog, thick enough that I considered switching on the blinking tail-light on my bike. Cleared off and turned steamy, but I got in a full weekend ride. First time this year over the particular route, downriver and then inland, and we've sprouted still more new homes in former cornfields. Sometimes I wonder what our offspring are going to eat in another twenty-fifty years.
Not-roadkill, a great blue heron scared up from his roadside pond. The damned bird barked at me. Jewel-weed blooming, some dinner-plate-sized mushrooms that looked like Aminita muscaria from bicycle-botany range, and the poison ivy seems to love this weather.
