Sunday roadkill report
Jun. 22nd, 2008 12:45 pmJust squirrels. Just gray squirrels, at that, not a single red squirrel or chipmunk. Or woodchuck, for that matter, since they're technically "ground squirrels." Poverty rules the roadkill list.
(I joke about this, but I'm nearing 500 miles of slow, foot by foot examination of the local back roads this year, and have not yet seen or smelled a roadkill skunk. Maybe rabies has put a serious dent in the population?)
Foggy morning, but the gray burned off and I got out on the bike -- upriver, across, and back, less than I'd like on a Sunday ride but Things have been Happening, and I need to retrieve Younger Son and Girlfriend from the bus station this afternoon. Lots of red clover and bird's-foot clover in the fields, drifts of white daisy faces, and the sumac is almost ready to bloom.
