Remember the Maine!

On this date, in the perfidious environs of Havana harbor, the battleship Maine blew up.  Somebody tell Shrub.  We can still attack those dastardly Spaniards and teach them a lesson about international state-supported terrorism.*

(Ignore that forensic guy behind the curtain, who says the likely cause was a coal-dust explosion in the bunkers...)

Meanwhile, we got about an inch of snow on top of that ice I reported earlier.  This turns surfaces into the ultimate winter death-trap.  I have gimped around to spread salt on our driveway, hopefully killing the ancillary grass come spring.

*Thereby proving the wisdom of "Shoe", in which was said "Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat sixth grade."

Remembrance of things past

Peeled up the last of those greening apples I hunted down last fall, chopped them, and Wife converted the results into a pan of apple crisp.  Not quite as tasty as that produced with fresh-picked apples, but still a ray of sunshine in the bleak midwinter.

The Book of My Enemy Has Been Remaindered

(Clive James)

Well, the mass-market edition of DRAGON'S EYE has joined the ranks of the remaindered.  You people just don't buy enough books.

As usual, I will have copies available for the discerning reader.
