The morning forecast extended the area of potential snow to the east, encompassing us.  We shall see.  Meanwhile, the same weather-person reported a simultaneous-reading temperature differential of about 20 degrees (F) between our location and Eastport.  No wonder the wind rattled our windows last night...

For those few following along at home, Kristen survived her trip up here.  No report of the trip back...

Still gray, getting colder, some splats mixed in with the drips out there -- wet snow.  Made up a batch of cheese-potato soup for lunch.  For the foodies among you, this is no big deal.  But it is simple enough for even a male to do it -- basically, you make up mashed potatoes but with enough water to make it soup, add in a bunch of chopped or shredded cheddar (good cheddar, not the bitter cheap stuff) and chopped onions to taste, and sprinkle in garlic vinegar.  Two potatoes worth of soup feeds one Jim for lunch.

I've noticed a tendency, even on PBS, to lump all sorts of nasty behavior under the title "genocide".  Cambodia, for all the hell of the Khmer Rouge, was not genocide.  I'm not sure that Darfur qualifies as genocide -- from this distance, it looks like a mix of religious pogrom and ethnic cleansing, where moving the subject people the hell out means more than killing them off wholesale.

Rwanda, that was genocide.

Not expected to lead to any accumulation at our location.

(I've heard that one before...)
