I believe we had a light frost last night.  Won't know what was killed, if anything, until later.  We were overdue.

Also, the side-yard has been hopping.  Or boinking, more precisely, with juncos and white-throats passing through.  We'll see a mob of mixed ground-feeders that don't know Nikita-the-cat is harmless, go a day or so with just the resident finches and chickadees, then see another mob.  Migration time, refueling for the next leg of their journey south and west, waiting on favorable winds.

And every once in a while, one of the neighborhood squirrels decides to charge through the flock, scattering sparrows to the winds.  Looks like a raid by La Migra...

I have to say that the white-throated sparrows in Maine are inferior to the ones we knew in Michigan.  They sing off-key.  Specifically, their "Poor Sam Peabody Peabody Peabody" is about half a tone flat.  No idea why there's this regional difference...
