One muskrat smeared across the road out near the middle of the bog.  Forensics difficult due to the fragmentary nature of the remains, but I saw a shred of that distinctive tail.

Windy this morning, temperatures in the low 60s at bike time, and we have some clouds out there that look ambitious.  More rhodora blooming in the wetlands, Canada mayflower actually flowering in May, even if not in Canada, some trout lily and trilliums.  Botany by bicycle does not offer an exact or exhaustive survey of spring wildflowers.

Must be the season of the moose...

(Cue Donovan)

Recent upsurge of moose/vehicle collisions, including at least one human fatality.  Several moose fatalities assumed but not confirmed, and one energetic animal was reported to have survived two close encounters of the automotive kind.

Theory hath it that the bugs are driving them out of the woods.
