We have decided that the chickadees are self-powered wood chippers.  Very small wood chippers.  But we won't have to worry about hauling the tree away when it finally dies...

For those in less northern ecosystems, the cry of "Skunk Cabbage!" may not mean much.  Up here, it defines a point in spring where you can believe in green growing things again.  And I saw the first virulent green shoots out in the bog, on today's bike ride.

For bonus points, the water was not over the road in the bog.  The town still had their "Road Flooded" signs up, and water lapped at the shoulders, but I had expected to have to get the tires wet. 

This will probably change tomorrow.  More rain forecast.

First complete weekday bike loop of the season.  My calves will probably have something to say about this.
