Stupid holiday names

Okay, we could celebrate Washington's birthday, or (if you are not from certain states) Lincoln's. But "Presidents"? Gah. Most of them were, and are, archetypes for the Peter Principle. Mediocrities best consigned to oblivion.
In other news, we managed to reach and even surpass, by one degree, the freezing point of water this weekend. This after two straight weeks below. Now back into subzero windchills, I'm afraid. We got maybe an inch of light snow overnight.
This is the week Maine flies south, escaping to Florida or other places where the sun still works. Schools have the week off. So naturally, Jet Blue canceled all flights out of Portland for three straight days...
