Dec. 31st, 2006

As the (arbitrary)(Western-calendar-based) New Year works its way around the world by (equally-arbitrary)(Anglo-centric) time zone fits and starts, I wish all of you the appropriate wishes. And, to quote, may the worst of 2007 be better than the best of 2006 for you.

Now, if you follow the Hebrew, Chinese, or Islamic numeration of days, or any other, please offset this post accordingly.

I have exercised, shoveling and sweeping our scant 2" of snow off various surfaces. We shall see if this was a good idea or not. The weather-god prophets think we shall have freezing rain, changing to all rain at some point, starting in the wee smalls of tomorrow morning. Sometimes we would be better off leaving a small cover of snow on the driveway and walks, to provide a rough surface for the following ice...

Anyway, I left the windshield wipers on both cars in the full upright position, where they won't get frozen to the glass. Survival tips for the Great North Woods, folks, free of charge.

May or may not attend the downtown festivities tonight. In any case, we shall ring in the New Year by the chimes of Big Ben, transmitted courtesy of the BBC World Service, at 7:00 PM local on my antique short-wave radio. Thus do we prove fuddy-duddy-hood.
