River fog

Frost again this morning. Sunshine at our level, fog in the valley below. Don't know if that cleared off before Elder Son walked to work or if he descended into clammy vagueness coming downhill and across the bridge...

I may try to get a bike ride in this afternoon -- temperatures proposed in the upper 50s F, with rain tonight and tomorrow. Cooler for the end of the week and the weekend. We _may_ yet get halcyon days in the 60s or even 70s, but don't bet any important anatomical bits on it...

Wife and I surveyed the evidence along Garland Street during our afternoon walk yesterday, where a SUV had wandered left across the opposing traffic to flatten a sign or two, ride up three steps on a front entry, drop down and continue, drifting across cross-street and lawns and _back_ across two lanes of traffic to thump resoundingly into the stone steps and entry door of a former upholstery shop. According to the newspaper (always a suspect source) the driver claims to have blacked out. I visualize the passenger screaming and flailing about as the process played out...

Glad I wasn't using the road at that time.

One ruffed grouse lying by the second interstate overpass on my bike route. Waste of a good bit of meat, that.

Braved wind and temperatures around 56 F, got out on the bike. Saw one other bicyclist equally addicted. More leaves down, more of the tamaracks turned gold, billows of winterberries day-glo scarlet in the bog.

This ride takes me into the dangerous territory of thinking I _might_ reach 1600 miles this year -- over 1530 on the odometer, with another 35 +/- off the clock. Just one more weekend ride, or a couple of local outings...

We'll probably be up to our asses in snow next week. Like Buffalo.

FedEx just stopped off, leaving a package from Penguin Group USA. Two copies of DRAGON'S TEETH trade paperback, two copies of DRAGON'S EYE mass-market. They look just like real books! Whee!
