Riders on the storm

Had to perform two rescues this morning -- Elder Son couldn't rouse his usual foul-weather ride to work, cell phone turned off or something, so I headed across the river as taxi service. And on the way out, spotted a goldfinch hanging sideways with one leg trapped in the fork of the bird-feeder post. I lifted him/her/it gently, disengaged the leg, and bird squeaked at me and flew. Don't know if the leg was broken or not, but that reaction is promising. Will cram some putty into the fork of the post to prevent further occurrences.
Twitched a bit when the news people gave the street number for that plane crash in Manhattan -- Sister lives on a 70s-number street, but _west_ side. And dammit, I used to have a private-pilot license. Flying into the side of a 50-story building ain't easy...
