Monday no-roadkill report
Oct. 9th, 2006 07:00 pmMissed a 12" garter snake by about 6". Dang, those things are hard to see before you're right _on_ them. But he/she/it was still slithering, on the paved shoulder and headed for the grass after surviving two lanes of heavy traffic, so I didn't have to intervene.
Temperature in the 70s this afternoon, with the prospect of 15-20 degrees colder tomorrow, so I decided to round out the odometer to that 1500 mile mark instead of waiting for my normal schedule. Still lots of asters blooming, but the swamp maples have dropped most of their leaves. And the tamaracks (larches, hackmatacks, whatever) are turning gold.
We'll see if I get in another ride before snow and ice coat the landscape.
Maybe finished up Chapter I of POWERS this morning, with the demon making an offer Old Guy can't refuse...
